Guide only — this matter needs a solicitor. Under Irish law this work must be carried out by a solicitor, so it is not sold on this site. The information below explains what is involved so you can brief a solicitor with confidence.
OnlineLegalServices.ie is operated by Plus Promotions Limited, which is not a solicitor’s practice and does not give legal advice. To instruct a regulated practice, use the Law Society of Ireland’s Find a Solicitor directory.
An agreement to mediate for family mediation in Ireland sets out the ground rules before mediation begins. Before family mediation begins, both parties normally sign an agreement to mediate. In this service, a solicitor would draft the agreement covering the appointment of the mediator, confidentiality and without-prejudice status, disclosure, how costs are shared and how the process ends, consistent with the Mediation Act 2017. Having the ground rules agreed in writing helps both parties approach mediation with confidence.

Frequently asked questions
How much does an agreement to mediate cost in Ireland?
This page is a free guide — nothing on it is for sale. Solicitors set their own fees for this work and must give you a written costs estimate (a section 150 letter) before starting. Get quotes through the Law Society of Ireland’s Find a Solicitor directory.
Why sign an agreement to mediate?
It sets clear ground rules, including confidentiality, disclosure and how costs are shared, so both parties know what to expect before discussions begin.
Is what is said in mediation confidential?
Mediation communications are generally confidential, subject to limited exceptions. The agreement to mediate records how confidentiality and without-prejudice status will apply.
