A cease and desist response consultation is a 30-minute video call with a solicitor after the other side has responded to your cease and desist letter. The other side has responded, so what now? Work of this kind is carried out by a solicitor regulated by the Law Society of Ireland. We are not a solicitor’s practice and do not provide it — to instruct a solicitor, use the Law Society of Ireland’s Find a Solicitor directory. A short written summary of the advice is included after the call.

If appropriate, the allotted time will instead be given to answering your questions by email. Deciding on the right next step early can save time and cost, and helps you avoid escalating a dispute that could be resolved.

What’s included

  • A 30-minute video consultation with a solicitor
  • Review of the response to your cease and desist letter
  • An explanation of your position and realistic options, from standing firm to settlement or escalation
  • A short written summary of the advice after the call
  • Where appropriate, the allotted time may instead be given to answering your questions by email

Who this is for

  • People who sent a cease and desist letter and have received a reply
  • Businesses whose demand letter has been rejected or challenged
  • People facing a counter-claim or threat in the response
  • Anyone deciding whether to escalate, settle or stand firm

How it works

  1. Find a solicitor through the Law Society of Ireland’s Find a Solicitor directory and send them the basic details and any existing documents or correspondence.
  2. Complete a short questionnaire about your circumstances.
  3. A solicitor would then review the response with you on a 30-minute video call, or answers your questions by email where appropriate.
  4. A short written summary of the advice is sent to you by email after the call.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a cease and desist response consultation cost?

This page is a free guide — nothing on it is for sale. Solicitors set their own fees for this work and must give you a written costs estimate (a section 150 letter) before starting. Get quotes through the Law Society of Ireland’s Find a Solicitor directory.

What should I do if the other side rejects my cease and desist letter?

Your options usually range from standing firm, to negotiating a settlement, to escalating the matter. The right choice depends on the strength of your position and your goals.

What should I bring to the consultation?

Bring your original letter, the response and any related documents or correspondence, so the solicitor can review everything with you.
