A cohabitation agreement in Ireland lets an unmarried couple who live together record how they want to deal with money, property and other practical matters, both while they are together and if the relationship ends. This digital product is a self-complete cohabitation agreement template for unmarried couples, which you complete online. No solicitor review is included at this price.

Please read this before you buy. Under section 202 of the Civil Partnership and Certain Rights and Obligations of Cohabitants Act 2010, a cohabitants’ agreement is only valid if it is in writing and signed by both of you, and each of you has received independent legal advice (or you received advice together and both waived the right to independent advice in writing). This template does not include that advice, so you will need to arrange it separately for the agreement to be valid.

What’s included

  • A self-complete cohabitation agreement template for unmarried couples in Ireland
  • Completed online by you
  • No solicitor review at this price

Who this is for

  • You and your partner live together, are not married or in a civil partnership, and want to record your arrangements in writing.
  • You are buying or renting a home together and want to set out who contributes what.
  • One of you is moving into a home the other already owns.
  • You want a starting draft to take to your own solicitors for advice.

How it works

  1. Instruct a solicitor of your choice — choose the digital document and complete your purchase.
  2. Complete a short questionnaire — enter the details for your agreement online.
  3. Your document is prepared from your answers — this is a self-complete product, so no solicitor reviews your answers or the finished document at this price.
  4. Delivered by email — you receive your completed document by email, ready to review and sign.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a cohabitation agreement cost in Ireland?

This page is a free guide — nothing on it is for sale. Solicitors set their own fees for this work and must give you a written costs estimate (a section 150 letter) before starting. Get quotes through the Law Society of Ireland’s Find a Solicitor directory.

Is a cohabitation agreement legally binding in Ireland?

It can be, if it meets the requirements of section 202 of the 2010 Act. It must be in writing and signed by both of you, and each of you must have received legal advice as the Act requires. A court can also set an agreement aside in exceptional circumstances where enforcing it would cause serious injustice.

Do we need a solicitor for a cohabitation agreement?

For the agreement to be valid, each of you needs independent legal advice, or you need advice together with a written waiver of independent advice. This template lets you prepare the document yourselves, but it does not provide that advice.
