A private 60-minute video consultation with an Irish solicitor, focused entirely on the US-Ireland tax and residency rules that matter when you move between the two countries. No generic advice; every call is tailored to your circumstances, your income sources and your timeline. Fixed fee €149.

What we cover in your consultation

  • Irish tax residency & domicile — the 183-day rule, the 280-day rule over two years, and how domicile (an inherited concept under Irish law) changes what you pay tax on.
  • The US-Ireland Double Taxation Convention — how it allocates taxing rights on employment income, pension income, dividends, interest, capital gains and rental income. Which country taxes first, and how to claim foreign tax credits on the other side.
  • Social Security Totalisation Agreement — how it protects your US Social Security contributions when you work in Ireland, and how it interacts with Irish PRSI.
  • 401(k), IRA and Roth conversions — timing a Roth conversion before or after establishing Irish tax residency, and Irish tax treatment of withdrawals.
  • Irish remittance basis — how non-Irish domiciled clients can legally limit Irish tax to remitted income, and the compliance steps required.
  • FATCA and FBAR reality-check — what Irish banks will ask you, why they ask, and what you need to file on the US side.
  • Stamp 0, Stamp 1G and Stamp 4 — which residency stamp matches your situation, and how each affects tax residency.
  • Exit planning — if you are considering giving up US citizenship or your green card, how Section 877A US expatriation tax interacts with Irish residency.

Who this consultation is for

  • US citizens already in Ireland who have received their first Irish tax notice.
  • Americans considering a move to Ireland in the next 6–18 months.
  • Dual US-Irish citizens trying to decide which country to be tax-resident in.
  • Remote workers paid in USD who have just become Irish tax-resident.
  • Retirees with 401(k) / IRA distributions considering the Stamp 0 programme.
  • US executors dealing with a deceased relative’s Irish assets.

  4. Written follow-up note. Within 3 working days we send a concise written summary of the points discussed and recommended next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a tax-return preparation service?

No. US 1040, FBAR and FATCA filings must be prepared by a US-qualified tax professional. Irish Form 11 or Form 12 filings can be prepared by an Irish tax agent. This consultation is about strategy, residency planning and treaty interpretation — it helps you brief those preparers correctly.

Can I have my US accountant on the call?

Yes. Many clients invite their US accountant or tax attorney to join. We can run the call as a tri-party session at no extra cost.

Will you give me a second opinion on advice I’ve already received?

Yes — second-opinion calls are a very common use case. Please upload the prior advice (or a summary of it) with your pre-call questionnaire so we can prepare.

What if I need to book more time?

We can extend on the spot at €2.50 per additional minute, or schedule follow-up sessions at a reduced rate of €99 per 45 minutes.

Is the written summary an Irish solicitor’s written opinion?

It is a summary of the points we discussed and our recommended next steps. A formal written opinion letter (on firm letterhead with professional-indemnity backing) is available as a paid add-on.

Do you work with Europeans or Canadians too?

This specific consultation is scoped for US citizens and green-card holders. For other nationalities we offer general Irish-residency consultations — message us on live chat.
